Typing research iOS is an iPhone and iPad app that allows us to study a participant's typing and related motor abilities via their own device. Our goal is to be able to detect markers of different conditions, such as Parkinson's Disease and Dementia, in typing, and thereby to contribute early diagnosis and monitoring. In order to do so we need to study the typing of a wide range of people, both people with such conditions, and people without.
When you open the app and enter the PIN code you were given you will be provided with information about the specific research project you have been invited to, and given the opportunity to participate. If you choose to participate you will be taken to a brief questionnaire that asks you about yourself, how often you type and whether you have any conditions that might be relevant to the study.

Once you have completed this questionnaire you will be taken to a screen that lists the tasks we would like you to perform.

One type of task you will be asked to perform is to read and type a series of sentences using your keypad.

The other task you will be asked to perform is to alternate between tapping different locations on your screen. This widely used task allows us to study your motor function more generally.

We hope that you find the app straightforward to use. Thank you for your interest in our research!
